Reporting Water Damage to Your Landlord

Home owners can have it tough whenever they’re going through house maintenance and paying for utilities. Renting can be a good option for a lot of people, especially for people on the go. Landlords can be nice to have, considering they have to take care of things like utilities, operation, and systems like plumbing and electricity.

If something goes wrong, all you have to do is call them and they’re required to fix it, especially if it’s related to safety. For example, if there is a leaky pipe or roof, the landlord is responsible for it and anything that the leak damages.

However, as DC 911 tells us, it can be difficult at times. If you see water damage, you should tell your landlord immediately rather than letting it sit. If the water damage is there for very long, it can and will grow mold, leaving an even heftier amount of damage.

The landlord might have to call in a professional to get any mold taken out, which can be on the fault of the tenant. They can take legal action against you if you aren’t diligent in reporting the leak or water damage to the people in charge. Water damage is dangerous, so it’s always good to report anyway, regardless of who the rented place belongs to.
