Shopify and Worldwide Brands

Everyone knows about Shopify and Ali Express, but what about Worldwide Brands – the ‘old school’ directory of certified wholesalers and drop shippers?  Could it provide a solution to the increasing levels of competition between store owners who re-sell products from Ali Express?

Doing what works is generally a good thing – but there comes a point when a market just becomes so saturated that nobody can squeeze out a profit anymore, or at least a profit so small they might as well not bother.

That seems to be happening with many niches that are popular among Shopify store owners – jewellery, watches, apparel, the list goes on.  But is the problem the niche or the supplier?  There are only so many suppliers on Ali Express (many sell the same stuff anyway) so the selection of products is sometimes not as wide as it appears to be.  That means that many Shopify sellers are just selling the same cheap stuff – and they are missing out on more unique products.

That’s where Worldwide Brands potentially comes in.  With more than 16 million products from certified suppliers you should be able to find good US based drop shippers with a wider range of unique products than on Ali Express.

The only problem is that Worldwide Brands does not integrate with Shopify at all – it’s totally manual, and you will need to add products one by one and fulfil them manually too – sometimes contacting each supplier over the phone to buy.

The upside is that you’ll almost certainly have a unique product again though – so while making a profit might be more work now, but’s it’s certainly still possible.
